General Admission Requirements for Online Delivery Format

Doctor of Psychology Admission Requirements

If you seek admission to the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs, you must hold a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a graduate level cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

If you do not hold a Bachelor's degree or a Master's degree in psychology or a related field, you are required to successfully complete ORG 5001 Survey of Psychology I (3 credits) and ORG 5002 Survey of Psychology II (3 credits) as part of your program. These two courses are designed to prepare you for the remainder of the program. If you are not required to take the introductory courses here, you are responsible for familiarity with foundational academic material from the field of psychology.

Due to residency requirements, this program is not available to non US residents at this time.

Master of Arts in Psychology Admission Requirements

If you seek admission to a Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology degree program, you must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale. You will be placed on first-term academic probation if you are entering with a grade point average of 2.00 to 2.99.

Additional Admission Requirements

English Language Requirement

You must have the ability to study in English indicated by one of the following:

  1. Achieved a recognized high school diploma or equivalent in which the primary language of instruction was English
  2. Received a GED that was taken in English
  3. Earned a Bachelor's, Master's, or other post-secondary degree from a regionally accredited college/university in the United States in which the primary language of instruction was English
  4. Earned a minimum of 30 college level credits from a regionally accredited college/university in the United States in which the primary language of instruction was English.

If you do not satisfy one of the requirements above, you must provide the results from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) examination taken within the past two (2) years. A minimum score of 213 computer based, 550 paper based, or 79 Internet based is required. An unofficial copy of scores must be submitted prior to provisional enrollment; official scores must be submitted prior to full admission.

Technology

Technology capabilities (minimally, students must have a computer with the following features and system configurations: Platforms: Mac OS X 10.2 or greater or Windows 2000, NT, or XP or greater; Hardware: 256 Mb RAM, CD-ROM, and 1 Gb free disk space; Productivity Software: Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat; Web Browser: Firefox, Netscape 6 or greater, Internet Explorer 5.5 or greater, Safari, or Opera; Networking: 56k dialup modem, DSL, or cable modem; and Email: Outlook, Outlook Express, Mac Mail, Eudora, Entourage, or Yahoo/Hotmail/Google mail.)

Transfer Credits

You can transfer up to 9 graduate-level semester hours into the Master of Arts in Psychology specializations; up to 12 post-master's semester hours into the 62 credit Doctor of Psychology specializations; or up to 36 graduate-level semester hours into the 121 credit post-baccalaureate Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization from appropriately accredited institutions when that coursework matches University of the Rockies' curricular offerings. Only courses with a grade of "B" or above will be considered for transfer credit. University of the Rockies reserves the right to determine the relevancy of the transfer course content based on institutional catalog course descriptions, course syllabi, and/or other satisfactory documentation. Courses that must be taken at University of the Rockies and cannot be transferred in from another institution are ORG 6520, 7100, 7270, 8518, 8522 and PSY 5200, 5210, 5250, 5260, and 6520.

Admission Materials

You must submit the following information, forms, and fees to be considered for admission:

  • University of the Rockies online Application for Admission
  • A $50.00 non refundable application fee
  • Official transcripts from institution granting the Bachelor's (for consideration to Master of Arts programs) or Master's (for consideration for Doctor of Psychology programs) degree and any graduate schools attended
  • Official copies of TOEFL, if applicable
