Trauma Concentration

Overview:

The Trauma concentration within the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), Clinical Specialization degree program at University of the Rockies is designed to teach the required skills to provide effective mental health services in the aftermath of a disaster and traumatic events. You will study the impact trauma has on neurology, physiology, behavior, world view, spirituality, relationships, self efficacy, and self worth. A thorough study of evaluation and assessment tools as well as effective treatment methodologies and preventing vicarious trauma, are part of this course of study. Treatment of individuals and groups is emphasized.

Concentration Requirements (9 credits):

Required course:

  • PSY 8150 Trauma Assessment (3 credits)

Choose two courses (6 credits) from the following:
  • PSY 8280 Treatment of Family Violence (3 credits)
  • PSY 8850 Advanced Treatment of Trauma Based Disorders (3 credits)
  • PSY 8861 Treating Traumatic Origins of Complex Emotional Disorders (EMDR -I) (3 credits)
  • PSY 8870 Effects of Trauma on the Presumptive World (3 credits)
  • PSY 8880 Treating Traumatic Origins of Complex Emotional Disorders (EMDR -II) (3 credits)
  • PSY 8890 Psychological Responses to Disaster (3 credits)
