Existential-Humanistic Psychology Concentration

Overview

University of the Rockies has established a number of relationships with other institutions in the United States and internationally to provide training in Existential-Humanistic Psychology. Additionally, many University of the Rockies students have been active in presenting at the American Psychological Association, the annual Humanistic Psychotherapies Conference, and on trips to China on topics related to existential and humanistic psychology. As University of the Rockies has gained significant exposure as a school providing opportunities for training in existential and humanistic psychology, a concentration in this area for students in the PsyD, Clinical Specialization has been approved by the faculty senate. Courses will substitute for elective credit requirements in the program.

Concentration Requirements (9 credits):

All students completing this concentration must take the following course:

  • PSY 8350 Existential Humanistic Psychology 3 credits

Up to 3 credits toward the concentration can be earned from the following classes:

  • PSY 8345 Jungian Psychology
  • PSY 8355 Transpersonal Psychology

If students complete 3 credits from PSY 8345, or PSY 8355, then 3 credits are needed from the following course options. If neither of the above courses were completed, then 6 credits are needed from the following coursework:

PSY 8351-8353 - These courses are 1-3 credit seminar courses in existential psychology. They often are used when distinguished visiting faculty come to Colorado Springs to teach a seminar. They also could be used in conjunction with a course that includes attending one of the Existential or Humanistic Psychotherapy Conferences or attending the Existential Reading Group held in Colorado Springs.
