Are you waiting for your VA Education Benefits?
The Department of Veterans Affairs has made funds available for Veteran students who are still awaiting their education benefit claim to be processed. Eligible veterans can receive up to a $3000 advance, which will be recouped from future benefit payments. If you are a student who applied for one of VA's education programs and have not yet received your monthly benefit payment for the Fall 2009 term, you can request a one-time advance payment at your local VA Regional Office or through VA's website, www.va.gov.

Post-9/11 GI Bill
University of the Rockies is proud to accept Post-9/11 GI Bill for all eligible students. Only active duty service performed after September 10, 2001, may be considered for determining eligibility for this new benefit. The percentage level ranges from 40% to 100% based on the aggregate active duty service level determined by Veterans Affairs.
Who is Eligible?
Any veteran may apply for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and may be eligible if:
- You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001 of at least 90 days;
- You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001; and
- You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran's service under the eligibility criteria listed above
How to Qualify
To qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, you must:
- Submit an application for the Post-9/11 GI Bill to the Department of Veterans Affairs online at www.va.gov;
- Provide a certificate of eligibility to your Admissions Recruiter; and
- Obtain admission to University of the Rockies
Yellow Ribbon Program
University of the Rockies is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon program is a voluntary agreement between Veterans Affairs and the University that allows eligible students (current and newly admitted) to have 100% tuition covered. The Yellow Ribbon benefits for 2009 include:
- A 50/50 grant between Veterans Affairs and the University to cover any tuition and required fee charges. The grant will be applied after Post-9/11 GI Bill funds, equaling 100% tuition coverage for you. The grant is applicable only during the University's participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program;
- Grant terms and coverage amounts are subject to change every academic year; and
- All required books for your program of study purchased through University of the Rockies' textbook partner will be covered by University of the Rockies.
Please note:
- Twenty-five tuition grants are available on a first-come, first-served basis between July 1, 2009 and June 30, 2010.
- Tuition grants will be applied for courses with future starts dates following full authorization status from the Veterans Administration. No retroactive grants will be awarded.
- Continuing Yellow Ribbon students will have books covered.
- Any applicable fees not covered by this grant must be paid in accordance with the terms of the selected finance option(s) as stated in the student's enrollment agreement.
Who is Eligible?
Only individuals entitled to the maximum Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit rate (based on service requirements) are eligible for Yellow Ribbon funding. Therefore, you may be eligible if:
- You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001 of at least 36 months;
- You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001; and
- You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran's service under the eligibility criteria listed above.
Please note: Active duty military and residents of Florida and Tennessee are ineligible for this benefit.
How to Qualify
To qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program, you must:
- Have served 36 months on active duty in the United States military after September 10, 2001 thus making you 100% eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
- Submit an application for the Post-9/11 GI Bill to the Department of Veterans Affairs online at www.va.gov and provide a certificate of eligibility to your Admissions Recruiter.
- Obtain admission to University of the Rockies.
- Remain enrolled or return as scheduled from an approved Leave of Absence. Should you lose eligibility for not maintaining continuous enrollment, any future grant benefit(s) will be forfeited. Online students must remain enrolled without breaks in attendance greater than 29 days.
Active Duty Military Tuition Grant
As a current active duty military member, you may be eligible for the Active Duty Military Tuition Grant which offers the following benefits for students who plan to pursue a Master's or Doctorate degree:
- All required books for your program of study purchased through University of the Rockies' textbook partner will be covered by University of the Rockies
- Waived technology fee
- $125 grant per credit hour for Master's degree students (reduces the tuition rate to $515 per credit hour.)
- $84 tuition grant per credit hour for Doctoral students (reduces the tuition rate to $756 per credit hour.)
Please note:
- To maintain eligibility for the grant students must remain continuously enrolled or on an approved Leave of Absence in their program of study. Students who withdraw from the program and resume at a later date will be required to re-verify eligibility for the University of the Rockies Active Duty Tuition Grant.
- Tuition grants will be applied for courses with future start dates following verification of active duty military status. No retroactive grants will be awarded.
- Continuing active duty military students will have books covered.
- Any applicable fees not covered by this grant must be paid in accordance with the terms of the selected finance option(s) as stated in the student's enrollment agreement.
- The Active Duty Military Tuition Grants are not available to residents of Florida or Tennessee.

To be eligible for an Active Duty Military Tuition Grant, you must be:
- Currently serving on active duty, reserve or National Guard
How to Qualify
To qualify to receive the Active Duty Military Tuition Grant, you must:
- Provide proof of active duty status by submitting a copy of your military identification (ID) card;
- Submit application for admission to University of the Rockies with all grant-verifying documents; and
- Remain enrolled or return as scheduled from an approved Leave of Absence. Should you lose eligibility for not maintaining continuous enrollment, any future grant benefit(s) will be forfeited. Online students must remain enrolled without breaks in attendance greater than 29 days.
Book Benefit for Non-Active Duty Military
If you do not qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, the Yellow Ribbon Program or the Active Duty Military Tuition Grant, you may still qualify to have all required books for your program of study purchased through University of the Rockies textbook partner covered by University of the Rockies. To qualify, you must be within any of the following eligible military statuses:
- Dependents who are eligible for survivor benefits;
- DoD employees; and
- Separated veterans and retirees currently eligible for VA Education benefits.
- Spouses of active duty, national guard and reservist military members

I served on active duty after September 10, 2001 but served less than 36 months. Am I eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program?
While Post-9/11 service members who served less than 36 months may be eligible for partial GI Bill funding, they do not qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program. Please see the contact information below if you have any additional questions.
I am currently on active duty in the Army, Navy, Air Force, U.S. Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. Am I eligible to receive a tuition grant?
Yes, University of the Rockies wants to be pro-active in helping active duty military members earn their degrees.
Can my spouse also receive the tuition grant benefits?
You'll be glad to know that the MyCAA program offers tuition assistance to Department of Defense (DOD) active duty military spouses. Visit their web site at https://aiportal.acc.af.mil/mycaa/ to find information on how to apply and create an account/profile. An account must be created to be approved for the MyCAA Financial Assistance.
