Post-9/11 GI Bill

University of the Rockies is proud to accept the Post-9/11 GI Bill for all eligible students. Only active duty* service performed after September 10, 2001, may be considered for determining eligibility for this new benefit. The percentage level ranges from 40% to 100% based on the aggregate active duty service level determined by Veterans Affairs.

*National Guard and Reservists may also qualify, as long as they meet the eligibility requirements.

Who is Eligible?

Any current service member or veteran may apply for the Post-9/11 GI Bill and may be eligible if:

  • You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001 of at least 90 days;
  • You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001; or
  • You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran's service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

How to Qualify

To qualify for the Post-9/11 GI Bill, you must:

  • Submit an application for the Post-9/11 GI Bill to the Department of Veterans Affairs online at www.gibill.va.gov;
  • Provide a certificate of eligibility to your Military Specialist; and
  • Obtain admission to University of the Rockies.

Yellow Ribbon Program

University of the Rockies is a proud participant in the Yellow Ribbon Program. The Yellow Ribbon program is a voluntary agreement between Veterans Affairs and the University that allows eligible students (current and newly admitted) to have 100% tuition covered. The Yellow Ribbon benefits include:

  • A 50/50 grant between Veterans Affairs and the University to cover any tuition and required fee charges. The grant will be applied after Post-9/11 GI Bill funds, equaling 100% tuition coverage for you. The grant is applicable only during the University's participation in the Yellow Ribbon Program;
  • Grant terms and coverage amounts are subject to change every academic year; and
  • All required books for your program of study purchased through University of the Rockies' textbook partner will be covered by University of the Rockies.

Please note:
  • Military grants will be applied for courses with future starts dates following full authorization status from the US Department of Veterans Affairs. No retroactive grants will be awarded.
  • Continuing Yellow Ribbon students will have books covered.
  • Any applicable fees not covered by this grant must be paid in accordance with the terms of the selected finance option(s) as stated in the student's enrollment agreement.

Who is Eligible?

Only individuals entitled to the maximum Post-9/11 GI Bill benefit rate (based on service requirements) are eligible for Yellow Ribbon funding. Therefore, you may be eligible if:

  • You served an aggregate period of active duty after September 10, 2001 of at least 36 months;
  • You were honorably discharged from active duty for a service-connected disability and you served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001; or
  • You are a dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under the Post-9/11 GI Bill based on a veteran's service under the eligibility criteria listed above.

Please note: Active duty military, active duty dependents and residents of Florida and Tennessee are not eligible for this benefit.

How to Qualify

To qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program, you must:

  • Have served 36 months on active duty in the United States military after September 10, 2001 thus making you 100% eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
  • Submit an application for the Post-9/11 GI Bill to the Department of Veterans Affairs online at www.gibill.va.gov and provide a certificate of eligibility to your Admissions Recruiter.
  • Obtain admission to University of the Rockies.
  • Remain enrolled or return as scheduled from an approved break. Students who withdraw from the program and resume at a later date will be required to re-verify eligibility for book benefits.

University of the Rockies Military Grant

Members of the military community may be eligible for the University of the Rockies Military Grant which offers the following benefits for students who plan to pursue a Master's or Doctorate degree:

  • All required books for your program of study purchased through University of the Rockies' online bookstore will be covered by University of the Rockies
  • Waived technology fee
  • $125 grant per credit hour for Master's degree students (reduces the tuition rate to $515 per credit hour)
  • $84 tuition grant per credit hour for Doctoral students (reduces the tuition rate to $756 per credit hour)

Please note:
  • To maintain eligibility for the grant students must remain enrolled or return as scheduled from an approved break. Students who withdraw from the program and resume at a later date will be required to re-verify eligibility for the University of the Rockies Military Grant.
  • Military grants will be applied for courses with future start dates following verification of active duty, veteran, or dependent military status. No retroactive grants will be awarded.
  • Continuing active duty military students will have books covered.
  • Any applicable fees not covered by this grant must be paid in accordance with the terms of the selected finance option(s) as stated in the student's enrollment agreement.

Who is Eligible?

To be eligible for a University of the Rockies Military Grant, you must be:

  • Active duty;
  • National Guard;
  • Reservists;
  • Spouses of: Active Duty, National Guard, and Reservists;
  • Students using VA Education Benefits;
  • Department of Defense employees;
  • Civilian employee of the US Coast Guard; or
  • Veterans Affairs employee

How to Qualify

To qualify to receive the University of the Rockies Military Grant, you must:

  • Provide proof of active duty or military status by submitting a copy of your military identification (ID) card, or appropriate verification for Veterans or dependents; or
  • a copy of your current Leave and Earning Statement (LES); or
  • a Statement of Service on branch letter head; and
  • Submit application for admission to University of the Rockies with all grant-verifying documents; and
  • Remain enrolled or return as scheduled from an approved break. Students who withdraw from the program and resume at a later date will be required to re-verify eligibility for the University of the Rockies Military Grant.

Frequently Asked Questions

I served on active duty after September 10, 2001 but served less than 36 months. Am I eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program?
While Post-9/11 service members who served less than 36 months may be eligible for partial GI Bill funding, they do not qualify for the Yellow Ribbon program. Please see the contact information below if you have any additional questions.
