Mental Healthcare Specializations Degree Programs
You must submit the following information, forms, and fees to the Admissions Office by the admissions deadline to be considered for admission to the Mental Healthcare Specializations in Master of Arts in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology programs:
- University of the Rockies' Application for Admission for Mental Healthcare Specializations Applicants.
- Official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools attended.
- A 3- to 5-page autobiography. The autobiography should cover personal and professional goals; academic and professional experience; personal qualities that will contribute to your success as a graduate student; and why you have chosen to apply to University of the Rockies and your desired program.
- Three professional letters of recommendation on University of the Rockies' Applicant Recommendation form. Letters must be from individuals who are familiar with your academic ability, work ability, integrity, and potential as a professional psychologist.
- Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results that have been completed within one year of your application.
- Consent to a criminal background check at www.validityacademics.com.
- Official copies of TOEFL, if applicable.
- Completion of the interview process.
Non-Mental Healthcare Specializations and Degree Programs
You must submit the following information and forms to the Admissions Office by the admissions deadline to be considered for admission to the Non-Mental Healthcare Specializations in the Master of Arts in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), the Master of Arts in Human Services, the Master of Arts in Organizational Development and Leadership, or the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Organizational Development and Leadership degree programs:
- University of the Rockies' Application for Admission for Non-Mental Healthcare Specializations and Degree Programs form.
- Official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools attended.
- Official copies of TOEFL, if applicable.
Non-Degree Seeking Applicants
You must submit the following information and forms to be considered for admission to a as a Non-Degree Seeking student:
- University of the Rockies' Application for Admission for Non-Degree Seeking Applicants;
- Unofficial or official transcripts from institution granting the Bachelor's degree and any graduate schools attended;
- Satisfy all prerequisite courses or degree(s) required for admission to the University of the Rockies degree program in which the courses are offered; and
- Unofficial or official copies of TOEFL are acceptable or transcripts to satisfy the English language requirement, if applicable.
In addition to the above requirements, non-degree seeking students who wish to take PSY prefix coursework offered in the Master of Arts in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy specialization or Mental Health Counseling specializations, or in the PsyD, Clinical specialization are also required to:
- Consent to a criminal background check at www.validityacademics.com; and
- Complete the interview process.

General Admission Requirements for On-Campus Delivery Format
Doctor of Psychology Program
If you seek admission to the Doctor of Psychology program, you must hold a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a graduate level cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or an earned Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Doctor of Philosophy Program
If you seek admission to the Doctor of Philosophy program, you must hold a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a graduate level cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or an earned Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.
Master of Arts Programs
If you seek admission to a Master of Arts program, you must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or a Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution. If you enter with a grade point average of 2.0 to 2.99, you will be placed on first-term academic probation.
Graduate Certificate Program
If you seek admission to a Graduate Certificate program, you must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or hold a Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.
Conditional Admission Requirements
Students seeking admission to Master of Arts, Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs may apply for conditional admission if they have not earned the prerequisite degree required for admission, but will have the prerequisite degree conferred prior to their start date. All other admissions criteria must be met in order to be considered for conditional admission. Applicants with a conditional admit status cannot be scheduled for class until they have provided acceptable documentation such as an unofficial or official transcript indicating conferral of the degree required for admission and met all requirements of provisional admission.
For conditional admission, applicants must provide the Admissions Office with the following documentation:
- Completed University of the Rockies Application for Admission form;
- Unofficial transcript of current program credits (official transcripts indicating degree conferral are required to meet full admission requirements);
- Submission of official transcripts from institutions where graduate credit was earned (if applicable); and
- Documentation of the ability to study in English (see English Language Requirements for acceptable documentation).
In addition to the above requirements, conditional admission for the Master of Arts in Psychology with Marriage and Family Therapy or Mental Health Counseling specializations and PsyD, Clinical specialization also must provide the following documentation:
- A 3-5 page autobiography covering personal and professional goals, academic and professional experience, personal qualities that will contribute to the candidate's success as a graduate student, and why the candidate has chosen to apply to University of the Rockies and the desired program of study;
- Three completed University of the Rockies recommendation forms;
- Miller's Analogies Test (MAT) results; and
- Completion of the interview process.
Conditionally admitted students must provide documentation of their degree conferment and meet all requirements for provisional admission prior to becoming a provisionally admitted student. Students will be subject to the policies and procedures of the Academic Catalog in effect at the time of provisional admission. University of the Rockies reserves the right to modify these policies and procedures at any time.
Additional Mental Healthcare Specializations Admission Requirements
These requirements are applicable to Master of Arts in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy Specialization or Mental Health Counseling Specialization or Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization only.
You are required to have completed an appropriate foundation in psychology, constituted by a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a major or minor in psychology. Undergraduate coursework with grades of "C" or higher or graduate coursework with grades of "B" or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning that encompasses the following areas may also satisfy this requirement:
- Abnormal Psychology
- Statistics
- Personality Theory
- Developmental Psychology
- Tests and Measures
- Psychology of Learning
You may choose to remediate deficiencies prior to enrolling in the program. If you choose to enroll in the program prior to remediating these deficiencies, you will be required to take PSY 5001 Survey of Psychology I and/or PSY 5002 Survey of Psychology II. Credits earned will be in addition to published program requirements.
You must submit the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Examination (GRE) results, which have been completed within one year of application. Please arrange to have the report sent to the University of the Rockies Admissions Office. In no case will the MAT be the sole reason for not being selected for admission.
You must consent to a criminal background check at www.validityacademics.com indicating that you have had no felonies or misdemeanors that would preclude insurability or licensure as a psychotherapist. Colorado may not license mental health providers who have had a felony conviction or who have had a court accept a nolo contendere plea to a felony if the felony is related to the ability to practice psychotherapy.
Transfer Credits
You can transfer up to 9 graduate-level semester hours into Master of Arts programs; up to 12 semester hours into the 68 credit post-master's Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) non-licensure specializations; or up to 36 semester hours into the 121 credit post-baccalaureate Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization from regionally accredited institutions when that coursework matches University of the Rockies' curricular offerings.
UoR may accept non-traditional credit courses evaluated by American Council for Education (ACE) as a graduate-level equivalent on a course-by course basis. Students will be responsible for requesting military transcripts and/or ACE transcripts that may include graduate-level equivalent courses in order to be officially evaluated for course-specific transferability.
Only courses with a grade of "B" or above will be considered for transfer credit. University of the Rockies reserves the right to determine the relevancy of the transfer course content based on institutional catalog course descriptions, course syllabi, and/or other satisfactory documentation. Courses that must be taken at University of the Rockies and cannot be transferred in from another institution are identified in the University of the Rockies Catalog.

Personal Interviews
You may be invited to an interview conducted by members of the Admissions Committee. Interviews are required for any students entering the MA or PsyD programs who intend to obtain a degree, which will prepare him or her for licensure as a mental health professional.

Course Delivery
Courses are offered in a combination of evening and weekend formats.
Evening Courses
Evening courses meet once per week from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm for nine weeks.
Weekend Courses
Weekend courses meet on three alternating weekends during the nine-week term. A student may register for two courses on the weekend, if available, but may not exceed the 2 courses per term policy.
